Inspiration Elevator - Grandad

This month we are thrilled to welcome back as a guest designer with our team, the artistic and genteel, Scarlett Salomone. Her creative works are as lovely as she is!

This month's challenge is issued by the talented Wendi Robinson. Her first time to issue a challenge for IE and it's a great one! Here is her challenge in her own words:

LOSS... One thing we as scrapbookers do is post about lots of happy things, wonderful moments, things that make us smile, and things we want to remember. Too many times we avoid scrapping the not so memorable, or sad times. Most of us have experienced a loss of some kind, whether is be a loved one- sometimes it's expected, sometimes the loss comes too soon and unexpected. Other times we lose a pet, a job, feel like we've failed at a situation, or loss of a friendship. This time, let's scrap those harder moments that come into our lives. Scrap about a LOSS of some kind.

For my page I scrapped a photo of my Grandad - this is probably from the 1940s when he was a young man.  I remember him for Saturday mornings where he taught us how to watercolour, made the largest omelettes, and evenings when he looked after us and we had massive card games and watched the Waltons, in all that he was also a devout Christian and Sunday School teacher which he loved - so even though it is a loss to not have him about anymore he has had a massive impact on all of my family and our lives.

Another Graphic 45 Botanical Tea page....and just looking at the photo I realised I didn't add a title - but the wood veneer kind of covers it really....I did make this page on holiday so didn't have access to dies, and hadn't taken suitably stickers!

I used the striped paper as my base and then a strip of blue for the top 1/3 of the page, I tore strips of paper from a mix of papers and sides of papers in the kit, and then layered them all up across the middle with some tissue tape (Tim Holtz) too (behind them I also added a doily).  Once my photo was in place I added some chipboard and prima wood veneers - the white washed effect on these ones went really well with all the tearing and white on the page, I also added some sequins and drips of cosmic shimmer mist.

The photo is of my kids with their Grandad on a trip into London and to see the Tower - it's an older photo I found, but one that I really like and so wanted to scrap.

Lean on Me

More of my Graphic 45 kit from ATDML- this time the Typography papers.  I decided to veer away from a shabby page this time, and went for a more graphic design that I thought the bolder colours from this range would suit.

I started by cutting lots of triangles from 2 1/2 by 3 1/2" squares.  I played with the arrangement and then distressed and inked the edges, and drew a little black outline around the newspaper ones.  I left some gaps and alternated the colours.  I then started with some papers for my photo mount, and added added a fussy cut sign and ink bottle, then a string of pearls between them, alongside some stickers from the paper range and a couple of pins.  The title is using my Memory Box die and brown card.

The photo....it took a while but we managed to get them all leaning on Durdle Door - my kids loved this style of photo - especially after the incredibly wet walk we had to get over to see Durdle Door (at which point even the kids were saying - is that all...as I talked about the amazing geography at work to produce this wonderful natural arch! I think it didn't help that we all got cold and wet and the tea/ice cream shop had run out of all of those things so there was no extra treat at the end!)

Dandelion Clocks

Here are some the pages that I made with the Graphic 45 papers sent to me by ATDML - these are all from the Botanical Tea range.

I decided to go for a very shabby style of page, I cut my base patterned paper down by an inch and distressed and inked the edges, as well as creating some little peep bits with some punched edges showing.  I also added doilies and then fussy cut out some flowers and birds, sticking them on with foam pads.  I hand cut my Dandelions as we were on holiday when I made the page, and then added buttons to the centre.  I had to add the title when we got home which is with a memory box die set.

These are just really quick phone snaps taken on a walk home from swimming in the early summer - something kids never grow out of doing!
